The writer makes some interesting and novel observations - I've seen most of the mentioned films (and have just ordered El Espejo de la Bruja from my usual stockist) and I'm not sure I concur with all of his arguments, but it's nice to read something a little more in depth and focusing more on the 'Haunted Hacienda' style of Mexican genre cinema and largely bypassing the usual Santo 'lucha libre with monsters' output.
I have a number of Mexican movies still to watch, along with some Argentinian, Brazilian and Chilean stuff, so I just might do a Latin American Season once I've finished the Voodoo.
eta - Just discovered I already have El Espejo de la Bruja which I obtained from my usual stockist some time ago.🙃
Thanks mal - I haven't had time to read it all, but just looking at the first paragraphs I realised that I really must do my Mexican homework. I remembered that I've never seen EL VAMPIRO. Quick skip to YouTube and there it is in all its BaW glory - even that first minute is extremely atmospheric, and VERY Hammer, like an old BaW trailer for the first DRAC, or BRIDES OF... People more Mexican than I, namely CMM, will know more about all this.
This might be my first (or rather second) of Sat's bills, after DOTS OF STAN.
