I'm reading (for the first time and on PDFs) the 1980s reincarnation of Dez Skinn's House Of Hammer (Halls Of Horror). Although I never read these particular issues, there's still a strong sense of nostalgia thanks to the inimitable writing style of the HoH contributors.
This run is especially handy for checking out films which were still in production, in pre-production or on recent release at the time of publication. Anybody remember Unhinged or The Returning (with Susan Strasberg) from 1983?
Just perusing HoH no. 1and I read "Media Macabre will spotlight the little-seen gore epic, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre" Tell the kids today there was a time when TCM was little-seen and they won't believe you.
I haven't seen The Reincarnation of the Mags, Unhinged, or The Returning. The last two may not have come to fruition. I do have the original run of the '70s mags beside me, and it is indeed fun to read about films "in production" that came to nowt or went through many changes.
I'm reading "The Camino" by Eddie Rock. It's about his exploits doing the Camino de Santiago, and it's irritatingly false. He's a nice, personable bloke in real life, but this book is sheer bollocks and he comes across as a wanker, although he's trying to push the "Aren't I nuts?" angle. Eddie, if you're reading this here (you might be a horror film fan), you ARE a good bloke, it was nice to meet you, but since you value honesty, your book is shite mate!
