For some insane/arcane reason I've decided to track down and review ALL the NEL horror titles from the 1960s and 1970s. Partly it's a nostalgia thing and also the books' writers are fascinating in their anonymity/incongruity, which interests me a lot. I know it's a bit 'Scarred for Life' but let's see what happens...first batch of novels arrived today.

With the house move I hope to behave a little differently and read more novels though the fact is I also have a lot of magazines that need reading....a lot. There is a lot of everything and it seems unlikely most will get read. But I pulled out a book of ghost stories (sixth book of ghost stories edited by Mary Timperley) and eleven tales in it is a really mixed bag with both bad comedy and prose and concepts. The er....decision may have come from the fact that....a friend who helped me move did not want any money for petrol or anything but coveted a book I had....and so, and this sounds really cheeky, but I sold it to him for £55. I had it on eBay for a hell of a lot more and it had sold for £117 once and it was a British author (Frederick Cowles collected works) and the book was limited to 250 copies and not all survive with their dust cover. But I had only read two of the stories....part of the condition of the sale was that he phone me three times a week telling me a story each night from the book which he has failed absolutely to do...but I don't want to let a good book out of my grasp without reading it again hence I am tucking in to some paperbacks....though with the innumerable paperbacks I have that seems unlikely I will get around to most of them.
