Mrs K has been rewatching this fantasy / romance / historical series. I've seen a few episodes and have to say the level of gore on show in the redcoats vs highlanders battles and the Hibernian hero's torture by a sadistic officer of His Majesty's Army make Fulci look quite restrained!

" Fun fact: the author of Outlander got the idea from watching Jamie McCrimmon in Doctor Who."
I knew it!
Incidentally I just read that the Duke of Cumberland, known as 'The Butcher' for his repression of the Scots after Culloden wasn't an English sadist. As the son of George II of Hanover, he was in fact a German sadist.
I haven't seen the series but isn't the hero Caledonian (Scottish) rather than Hibernian (Irish)? That confusion happens a lot because Hibernian FC is a Scottish football team (originally formed by a priest to give a social and sporting focus to young Irish Catholics in Edinburgh, the idea later borrowed by Celtic FC in Glasgow).
