I've just watched Kim Newman's excellent piece on Eureka's Universal 'Edgar Allan Poe' collection, in which he echoes an idea that I've mentioned on the board the last few times 'Kiss of the Vampires' came up for discussion - that Hammer's 'Kiss of the Vampire' is an almost beat-for-beat remake of Universal's'The Black Cat', but with vampires instead of Satanists. A honeymooning couple in Eastern Europe find themselves staying in the sinister castle home of a weirdo who is the head of a cult. He has spirited away the daughter of a local who ends up helping the couple escape and defeat the weirdo. There's also the business of the weirdo setting his sights on the new bride and trying to initiate or sacrifice her. I got poo-pooed for suggesting this similarity in the past, but if the great Kim Newman sees it too, that makes it official as far as I'm concerned! 😁

Let's not forget Brides of Dracula as well, including the cauterisation scene and the entire ending.
The excellent So Long at the Fair (co-directed by Terry Fisher) is more of an influence I think.
