A brisk paced succession of bizarre and poorly realised scenes of 'spooky and/or horrible things attacking kids'. The obvious paucity of resources, the nonsensical script, the inexperienced cast giving one dimensional performances and the cheap'n'tacky sfx (aiming to emulate those seen in contemporaneous horror hits such as Evil Dead, Hellraiser, The Beyond etc) mean that this picture is likely to be appreciated only by trash film aficionados - taken in that spirit it's quite enjoyable and the in crescendo accumulation of vignettes shot through with random weirdness and nastiness, almost accidentally builds up a certain dramatic momentum, while the silly but simultaneously disturbing premise ("we are locked in time forever...dead...and living...all caught in this awful, angry, half-world and we can't escape - ever...ever...EVER!") just makes Bloody New Year into a more legitimate candidate for the title of "The British Answer To Nightmare On Elm Street" than the likes of Dream Demon or Beyond Bedlam, films which, unlike the title under advisement, I have not the slightest desire to revist
