Well, I thought that the Nucleus Blu-ray of BORLEY RECTORY couldn't be matched - but what a job Arrow have done on NIGHTBREED! I'm still working through disc one, with booklet, script BD-ROM, and disc two to go. Crammed with extras, and with two commentary-accompanied cuts of the film (theatrical, and a two hour version with a strong Derby connection, culled from material originally rediscovered at Clive's house by Derby University lecturer Russell Cherrington). Russell found an unmarked VHS tape at Barker's place and, on playing it, realised it held much of the sought-after NIGHTBREED offcuts, admittedly in terrible quality. This led to Russell assembling a rough version of 'The Cabal Cut' - which I was fortunate to see on the big screen at Derby QUAD some years ago. Parts of it were near unwatchable, but Arrow's new 'Director's Cut' seems to have found new elements and/or restored some of the material, giving a two-hour version (which, perversely and despite all of the effort, I like slightly less than the messed-around-with cinema original!)
Nice to see this mixed bag again. And Clive's enthusiastic, boisterous commentary is great fun.
