Our rabbits need a new patch, and this seems the best place.
Hopefully the old BHF crew will find their way here over the coming days and we'll have some chat about tonight's screening of The Strange Door and Blood From The Mummy's Tomb.
Here’s a breakdown of what’s in store each Saturday from now until the end of August.
There are nineteen films in all (the last Saturday of the season features just one film). Films by decades; 1930s – 2, 1940s – 2, 1950s – 3, 1960s – 5, 1970s – 7
There are 4 Amicus movies (2 of which are portmanteaux), 3 from Hammer and 2 from Tyburn. Also 2 ‘minor’ Universal pictures. Four of these films are directed by Freddie Francis and one by Terence Fisher.
Ten are British films, eight are US productions (one directed by Tod Browning) and one is from the Philippines.
Eight are in black and white, the rest in colour, though at least two of the monochrome films are available in colorized versions.
Horror stars are conspicuous by their absence in many of the titles, but Peter Cushing leads the field, appearing in six movies, in two of those alongside Christopher Lee. Vincent Price turns up in an early role with Boris Karloff and Basil Rathbone and then again in a film made exactly twenty years later. Oliver Reed stars in two of the Hammer films, and some occasional genre performers are also in the mix - Peter Lorre, George Zucco, Michael Gough, David Warner….
The blend includes three werewolves, two giant creatures on the rampage, three severed hands, sundry demons, witches, vampires, cannibals, historical horrors, psychopaths – even a bit of Voodoo.
